    Songkran

Songkran, Thailand’s New Year festival, takes place nationwide from April 13 to 15, 2026, but in practice the celebrations run for over a week in major cities and resort towns. For LGBTQ+ travelers, the biggest draws are in Bangkok and Koh Samui, where Songkran combines cultural tradition with some of Asia’s most spectacular LGBTQ+ parties.

    Bangkok’s gCircuit Extravaganza

In Bangkok, gCircuit Songkran is the anchor for the gay community. It’s Asia’s largest gay circuit festival, featuring multiple themed dance parties, pool events, and late-night club sessions across three days. The crowd is international, stylish, and ready to dance until dawn. Silom, particularly Soi 2 and Soi 4, becomes the beating heart of gay nightlife during the festival, with bars and clubs spilling into the streets for non-stop fun.

    Koh Samui Pride Songkran

On the islands, Koh Samui Pride Songkran is a big event. Running from April 10 to 13, it includes a Pride parade, pool parties, cabaret shows, and open-air beach events. It’s more relaxed than Bangkok’s high-octane circuit scene, but just as vibrant, offering a chance to mix traditional Songkran water fights with drag shows and island nightlife.

    Culture and Tradition

Beyond the parties, Songkran has deep cultural roots. Mornings see temple visits, offerings to monks, and blessings for elders. LGBTQ+ visitors are welcome to join these traditions, provided they dress modestly and respect the spiritual side of the holiday. The contrast between daytime rituals and nighttime revelry is part of what makes Songkran so unique.

    Planning Your Trip

Hotels in Bangkok and Koh Samui book out months in advance, especially around Silom and Chaweng Beach, so early reservations are key. Be ready for water fights in the streets - quick-dry clothing, waterproof bags, and a playful spirit are essentials. Tickets for gCircuit events and Pride pool parties also sell quickly, so plan ahead if you want to be in the centre of the action.

    Book Your Hotel

Book from a selection of the best gay-friendly hotels in Bangkok and Koh Samui to enjoy the full Songkran 2026 experience.
